He doesn't seem half bad!

Ben Affleck helped son Samuel warm up by tossing around the baseball with him before his little league game yesterday, and although he's nowhere near as good as his beloved Red Sox stars, the actor looks like he has pretty good form.

The A-list star has been looking after the kids while ex Jen Garner puts in long hours on the set of Lena Dunham's new show Camping, and it doesn't leave a lot of time for romance.

In fact, the Hollywood heartthrob's relationship with mistress-turned-girlfriend Lindsay Shookus has cooled off in recent weeks, and insiders tell us although they're still together, they're going through a rough patch.

A source tells X17:
    "Ben really does love Lindsay, and she's crazy about him. The problem is that she's based in NYC with her work and her daughter, and his whole life is in LA. They've been doing the bicoastal thing, but recently Ben has been having trouble seeing how things will work out in the long term. Neither of them can just up and move, and eventually in any relationship, the distance becomes a problem. She's been trying to reassure him that they'll find a solution, but he has withdrawn a little emotionally to protect himself in case things come to an end."

He might not be so great at love, but he is great at fatherhood!
