They broke up because they were finding their schedules too challenging for a serious relationship, but once they were apart, they realized they'd rather put in the work than be out of each other's lives. Bella really didn't like him dating Selena, but she patiently waited for him and chose not to go public with anyone in the hopes that he'd come back to her."
