The Miss America pageant has decided to scrap the 97-year-old tradition of the bikini contest in the wake of the #Me Too movement, as many critics claim it's deeply misogynistic.
"We are no longer a pageant. We are a competition. We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That’s huge! And that means that we will no longer have a swimsuit competition," ,†Gretchen Carlson, chair of the Miss America Organization’s Board of Trustees, announced on GMA this morning.
As if that wasn't enough, the evening wear portion of the show is also getting the boot!
"We are no longer judging women when they come out in their chosen attire. It’s going to be what comes out of their mouth that we’re interested in when they talk about their social impact initiatives," she added.
Are we the only ones that are a little disappointed? Now we can't even have a proper pageant?!
