It's a tough road for Liam Hemsworth following his split from Miley Cyrus ... and his recent comments lead us to believe the breakup wasn't his idea!

Liam somehow got roped into giving a quote to The Daily Mail Australia and told the outlet, "You don’t understand what it’s like. I don’t want to talk about it, mate."

The Aussie is holed up at his brother Chris' Australian mansion dealing with the emotional fallout of the end of his marriage of less than a year. Of course the two hadn't been hitched that long, but they'd been together off-and-on for years -- they met on the set of The Last Song in 2009!

Miley's opening up as well -- on Instagram, of course, with an "inspirational" message. She wrote, on Sunday: "Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win. So obviously Miley's in the Dolomites in northern Italy after she tooled around Lake Como with Brody Jenner's ex Kaitlynn Carter, the two making out on deck for all the paparazzi to see! So change is happening, let's see where else it takes Miley!
