Talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres just bought a REALLY nice present for her wife, Portia De Rossi ... a Malibu beach house!

DeGeneres signed on the dotted line Friday, for the purchase of Brad Pitt's $12-million estate in north Malibu.

The property is perched above a beach with private access and includes a pool and tennis court.

X17online reported Ellen was getting close to a deal for the luxury pad last month. And a few weeks later, we spotted Brad at the home, packing up some of his personal items in preparation for turning over the keys to DeGeneres.

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick announced their engagement yesterday, and while the lovebirds are obviously thrilled to take their relationship to the next level, things could get complicated when it's time to walk down the aisle.

Remember, Britney has been in a conservatorship since 2008 (her father Jamie and attorney Andrew Wallet are co-conservators), and even though she's made remarkable strides since her meltdown several years back, Jason is legally bound to ask Jamie for permission to marry Britney. After all the years they've been together, we can't imagine Jamie doesn't approve of Britney's partner, but he makes all financial, medical and career decisions on his daughter's behalf, so it's almost like Jason will be marrying Jamie too!

While this all seems pretty standard for a conservatorship, we have to wonder what would happen if both Britney and Jason requested that he be made conservator. After all, he's proven himself to be quite stable over the years, so we're curious as to how Jamie would react if Jason challenged him for control over Britney's life.

A conservators' hearing is scheduled for January 19, but we're told that it's simply an allowance of fees and a motion to seal court records, and it has nothing to do with Britney's changed relationship status.

Tara Reid took care of some last minute holiday shopping in Hollywood the other day, and the 36-year-old actress turned heads in a belted leopard frock and sexy nude pumps.

So is Tara dressing up for her hot new boyfriend? Nope! It turns out the tall, dark and handsome man she went to dinner with the other night is just a friend, so it looks like she's enjoying some me time! Tara recently wrapped shooting on American Reunion and she's set to begin promoting the flick in the next few months, so it's good to have her back!

It seems like getting Suri Cruise to put on a winter coat is still an impossible mission, as we spotted daddy Tom Cruise bundling her up in a blanket and carrying her to their car last night! While Tom was holding a quilted jacket for his five-and-half-year-old daughter, it looks like she was more interested in dressing for spring in a short dress and bare legs. Brr!

We later spotted Tom and wife Katie Holmes after dinner, and it looks like they're still just in love as they were when the infamous couch incident happened. Aww!

Yesterday Joe Jonas and a pal grabbed a bite to eat at Urth Caffe in West Hollywood, and the middle JoBro let his shirt do the talking when he was spotted by photographers. But what sort of revolution does he have in mind? Something related to music and fashion, or is he dipping into politics with this message?

Yesterday Reese Witherspoon went Christmas shopping in West Hollywood, and she couldn't stop smiling when we snapped her photo! While the bubbly blonde Oscar winner is undoubtedly excited to be spending the holidays with her family, it seems like a little casting news may be partially responsible for her chipper mood.

It was just announced that Reese is set to star in Devil's Knot, which is the big screen adaptation of Mara Leveritt's nonfiction book on the West Memphis Three. The film follows the brutal murders of three 8-year-old boys and the three teenagers who were convicted of the crime back in 1994. Reese would play the mother of one of the murder victims, and THR reports that her character is initially "convinced of the trio's guilt, but ultimately begins to doubt it." Sounds like an interesting role for her!

Sigh, if only these two would make a reality show! They're far more interesting than Kim and company...

Yesterday we caught Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and steady beau Jason Statham shopping in New York City, and the lovebirds didn't seem to mind the attention from paparazzi photographers. Of course, they've been dating for almost two years now, so they're definitely used to it!

Rosie recently spoke with Harpar’s Bazaar about her brutal teen years (she's previously revealed that she was bullied because of her awkward appearance), and she told the mag that she was "a bit of an Ugly Betty" when she was 15. As you may know, Rosie began working as an intern at a modeling agency when she was in her teens, and pretty soon after she took the job, she was "discovered" and sent on auditions. Of course, it wasn't the smoothest transition -- Rosie joked that she would show up at castings "in trainers, with braids, a ton of makeup, plucked eyebrows ... [and] I had braces." Yikes!

Last month Justin Bieber promised the students of Whitney Elementary in Las Vegas that he would put on a holiday concert at their school, and not only did he keep his word, but he also wrote them a check for $100,000 when he paid them a visit on Friday!

Justin teamed up with pal Ellen DeGeneres to help the kids, and she also surprised the school with a $100,000 donation courtesy of Target. In November, Ellen brought attention to the fact that over 70% of the children enrolled at Whitney don’t have permanent homes, and she presented Principal Sherri Gahn with a brand new library worth $200,000. We love it when celebs put their money where their mouths are!
