The ladies ruled the night at MTV's VMAs this year, with both Adele and Katy Perry taking home three Moonmen each, and Perry winning the biggest award of the night: Video of the Year.

The voluptuous singer, who showed up in a sexy Asian-inspired ensemble complete with parasol, also took home a Moonman for Best Collaboration and Best Special Effects for E.T. featuring Kanye West.

Adele nabbed VMAs for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing. Lady Gaga, decked out in drag as her alter ego "Joe Calderone", kicked off the show with a performance of her hit, You and I, before winning awards for Best Female Video and the VMA's newest category, Best Video with a Message.

A beaming Beyoncé, who announced her pregnancy and debuted a growing baby bump at tonight's show, was honored with the Best Choreography award for Run The World (Girls). Justin Bieber also went home with just one Moonman for Best Male Video, U Smile.

A tan and toned Britney Spears showed up in a sexy Moschino playsuit to accept the award for Best Pop Video for 'Till the World Ends. The Femme Fatale singer made sure to include BF Jason Trawick in her acceptance speech, confessing, "Jason I love you" after her win. Brit was also honored by Lady Gaga and given the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

The singer took the stage dressed as her male alter ego, "Joe Calderone", and performed her new hit You and I in full-on drag as she opened for MTV's VMAs tonight. Think she's better looking as a dude?

Britney Spears looked totally ravishing in a shiny black Moschino playsuit as she collected her award for Best Pop Video for 'Till the World Ends, and the singer made sure not to forget BF Jason Trawick in her acceptance speech confessing, "Jason, I love you!".

Justin Bieber didn't mention his ladylove Selena Gomez when he nabbed the Moonman for Best Male Video for U Smile, but he thanked "not just God, but Jesus," during his brief speech. "The Biebes" showed up to the awards show with a rather strange date -- a small snake. The jokester told Gomez, who hosted the red carpet pre-show, his pet's name was "Johnson".

The teen power couple sat together throughout the show, with Gomez looking sleek and sexy in a tight low-cut black Julien Macdonald number. No wonder Bieber couldn't keep his hands off her!

Chris Brown was probably the highest celeb at the show -- he performed a cover of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, while soaring over the crowd connected to cables.

And who got THE best seat in the house tonight? Lucky 17-year-old Patrick Schwarzenegger snagged the choice spot directly behind Lady Gaga and Jay-Z! The budding model wasn't nominated for anything of course, but why not take advantage of the connections?

What's worth cutting your honeymoon short for? A red carpet opportunity!

Well, in this case it was a black carpet photo op. In her first public appearance since getting married, Kim Kardashian showed up at MTV's VMAs in Los Angeles on Sunday.

She had arrived back in the States post-honeymoon; she and new hubby Kris Humphries spent a few days in Italy following her wedding last week. Kim wore her new wedding ring, made up of emerald-cut diamonds, at the awards show.

Kim Tweeted: "Glamming up for VMA's! I'm presenting tonight! Gonna be a fun night! I've never been to VMA's before."

Nicki Minaj was super excited to be nominated twice at MTV's 2011 Video Music Awards, and she showed that excitement through her brightly colored ensemble and ... doctor's mask?!?

We guess somebody has to try to out-shock us after Lady Gaga. Minaj wore a geometric skirt, electric-colored hair and a decorated mask at the awards show.

At the show, Britney Spears praised Minaj, who opened up for Spears on her Femme Fatale tour this year.

Britney Spears looked amazing at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night! Spears' bod looked great in a leather-and-lace, skintight romper.

The stars performed a tribute to Spears at the awards show, and boyfriend Jason Trawick was on hand to support his lovely lady.

Selena Gomez showered Spears with praise, and Britney told her that knowing the tribute was coming felt "amazing." And who's she excited to see? Adele! Said Spears:

"I love her. I'm the biggest fan. I'm really excited about seeing [her]."

The VMA's included a special tribute to the late Amy Winehouse tonight, with the singer's friends, Russell Brand, Tony Bennett and Bruno Mars all paying tribute to the talented and troubled star.

Mars was chosen to pay musical homage to Winehouse, and put his own spin on her hit single Valerie, while encouraging the crowd to clap along and join him in showing appreciation for the late singer.

Brand knew Winehouse before she was famous, and recalled the first time he heard her sing, expressing:

“She was kind of like a daft, dopey person, just kinda wandering around. Kinda crazy. The first time I heard her sing, I didn’t even know it was her."

The Arthur star then introduced Tony Bennett, who unveiled a never-before-seen video from his March 2011 recording session at the Abbey Road Studios in London with the late singer.

Bennett said of the Rehab singer: “I recorded with Amy Winehouse and she was so unbelievable, because of all the artists I met in the last 20 years, she was a true jazz artist”. The pair recorded the single Body and Soul early this year, which ended up being Winehouse’s last studio recording.

Katy Perry and hubby Russell Brand looked super happy to be at MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday!

The singer rocked an Asian-inspired dress, pink hair and a cute umbrella -- though the awards were held inside! Her comedian husband donned his signature rocker look.
