Vanessa Hudgens graces the April cover of
Shape Magazine, and she shows off her perfect physique in a pastel bikini and a crochet sweater. The 22-year-old starlet chats about her new film
Sucker Punch and how she stays fit, but she also reveals some of the details about her split from longtime boyfriend Zac Efron.
Hudgens says that even after several years together, their busy work schedules eventually took a toll on the relationship. "Long-distance relationships are hard no matter what," she says. "When you don't have face-to-face time, it's just different. Having an iPhone helped, but it wasn't the same." Though the two are no longer together, the actress can look back fondly on her time with Efron and the two are still friends. "We grew up together," she says. "It was nice to have someone to share all of those experiences with. It was a good thing. The relationship kept me grounded, and because I was with someone who knew me so well, I didn’t need to try to be someone I'm not."
So how does Vanessa keep her amazing body in shape? "Having someone to go to classes with makes you want to do your best, not just for yourself but for the other person too," she says. Hudgens alternates Pilates, yoga, and spinning when it comes to cardio, and she also sticks to a healthy diet. "I used to go to Cold Stone Creamery, get a tub of Butterfinger ice cream, and eat it all before bedtime. And my fingers were permanently stained orange from Cheetos." However, after a break from
High School Musical a few years ago, Hudgens stopped working out, and when filming resumed she was in shock with how out of shape she was. "When I came back, I almost couldn't get my costume on. I needed to do something about my diet." These days the brunette babe sticks to egg white omelets with veggies or oatmeal with almonds and fruit for breakfast, and for lunch and dinner she has a spinach salad with grilled chicken or salmon, marcona almonds, feta, a little truffle oil, and a sprinkle of pink Himalayan sea salt. "It's my favorite meal," she says. "When you're putting good stuff into your body, you feel so much better."
Last night Vanessa went to the Lakers game with
Sucker Punch co-star Emily Browning, and it looks like the ladies were quite popular with photographers and autograph seekers:
