Mel Gibson plead no contest today to a charge of misdemeanor battery, and though the actor is avoiding jail time, he has several fines and a long list of requirements he must obey to stay in compliance with his probation.

Judge Stephanie Sautner informed Mel that he is on informal probation for 36 months, and he must perform 16 hours of community service with Mending Kids International, and he is required to enroll in a 52-week domestic violence counseling program within the next 21 days. Mel must provide proof of enrollment and a progress report to the court by June 9, 2011, and he has until March 30, 2012 to complete the course.

Mel is also required to complete a 52-week counseling program, but the judge is allowing the actor to satisfy this part of the agreement with the private counselor he's been seeing since January. As a part of his probation, Mel must not threaten or use violence towards anyone, and he's prohibited from "annoying, harassing or molesting" anyone involved with the case.

Mel will be served with a protective order today, and he also has to pay several fines by the June 9 follow up date, including a $400 domestic violence fine, a $100 restitution fine, a $40 court security fee and a $30 criminal conviction fine.

Mel has the next week to report for booking at police agency and mail the court proof, and as long as he complies with the protective order and the terms of his probation, he's in the clear. The actor stated that he had a "good grasp" of all the terms of his plea deal.

The charge stems from ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva's accusations that Gibson allegedly threatened her with a gun and punched her at his Malibu home. Grigorieva (who was referred to as "the complaining witness") waived her appearance today in court.

Oksana Grigorieva was in good spirits this morning as she sent her young daughter Lucia off to daycare. Her ex Mel Gibson is expected at the Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles at 1:30 pm to face misdemeanor battery charges.

Just this morning, the L.A. County District Attorney officially filed a single misdemeanor battery charge against the actor.

The charge stems from Grigorieva's accusations that Gibson allegedly threatened her with a gun and punched her at his Malibu home.

Oksana will not be charged with extortion which stemmed from a multi-million dollar deal she signed with Mel back in May 2010 during their child custody case. She eventually rejected the deal.

Grigorieva is not expected to attend today's court hearing.

Mel Gibson is set to appear at the Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles this afternoon for a misdemeanor battery charge, and he is expected to plead no contest as part of a plea deal.

The DA had the option of filing a felony domestic violence charge against the actor, but based on the plea agreement, the lesser charge was filed. Gibson will be put on probation and he is reportedly required to attend counseling, but he will avoid jail time.

The charge stems from ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva's accusations that Gibson allegedly threatened her with a gun and punched her at his Malibu home. The battery charge being filed is California Penal Code, Section 243(e)(1), which is "against a person with whom the defendant is cohabiting, a person who is the parent of the defendant's child, or a person with whom the defendant currently has, or has previously had, a dating or engagement relationship."

Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were forced to evacuate the Twilight set in Vancouver, located on the Island resort town of Tofino, due to a tsunami warnings Friday, according to People.

The devastating 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan has sent shock waves through many parts of the world, sending tsunami warnings for at least 50 countries and territories.

A mild tsunami has raised waters north of Vancouver Island, but no effects from the earthquake have been reported as of yet.

Breaking Dawn cast member Tinsel Corey Tweeted Friday:

"They're evacuating us 4 a tsumnani [sic] warning. If this … is my last my tweet. I love you. The end. Hugz ... If this is the moment. Then I've lived a good life. And I'm thankful 4 everything I've been given."

Production on the film has been delayed until conditions have become safe.
