Who would have thought we'd be watching Sandra Bullock win the Best Actress in a Drama prize at the Golden Globes, after being the queen of romantic comedies for too many years to count and the cute girl in Speed. But tonight, the not-so-young anymore, former America's Sweetheart, won top honor at the awards show for her role in The Blind Side, in which she plays the evangelical Leigh Anne Tuohy who recruits and takes under her wing a homeless, traumatized young boy who becomes a first-round NFL draft pick because of her nurturing.

Avatar, not surprisingly, took home the prize for Best Motion Picture and the film's director James Cameron won for Best Director. The blockbuster is already one its way to beat Cameron's previous box office record with Titanic and is a favorite to win big at the Oscars.

The film with the $400 million budget, that took more than a decade in computer technology development and studio wrangling to make it to the big screen, is about a paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission and who becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.

Other big prizes of the night went to Robert Downey, Jr. for the title role in Sherlock Holmes, directed by Guy Ritchie.

Up in the Air won Best Motion Picture Screenplay for Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner. The George Clooney-led film is a favorite Academy Award contender.

Best Comedy went to The Hangover and Best Comedy or Musical TV Series went to newcomer Glee.

Icon Alert! Cher And Christina

The two Burlesque stars hit the Golden Globes together and took to the podium as presenters for Best Song and For Best Original Score.

Were they the odd couple or the perfect match? Goth meets peachy angel? Grandma meets sexy 20-something? I think these two are both so overdone that they somehow look like a match made in heaven!

Drew's A Winner! Off The Red Carpet Anyway ...

The girl who lisps, it is!

Drew Barrymore takes home the prize for Best Actress in a TV Motion Picture for her role in Grey Gardens.

She told the room of her peers that she'd been at the awards presentation since she was 7 years-old and that Mo'Nique who set the bar for acceptance speeches. But in the end, all I could think about was her weird dress with glassy spikey things on the shoulder and pokey things jutting out from her hip. If it were blue, I would have thought it was a tribute to Avatar - some futuristic gown made for walking the red carpet and stabbing enemies in the eye -- but alas, it was just a failed attempt at fashion ...

Mariah Is So Precious

I mean, really ... could Nick be any more of a puppy dog/servant to Mariah? But then, with cleavage so shiny and round, most men would do the same :)

Precious is nominated in three categories tonight, including the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama. If it wins, I hope Sapphire gets up there and takes some credit because that book was amazing!

Okay, we all know George Clooney doesn't wanna get married, but come on ... shouldn't he snatch up Elisabetta Canalis and not let her go?!

This pair looked ravishing on tonight's Golden Globes red carpet -- can you get more perfect than this?

Clooney's preparing to host the Hope for Haiti telethon on the 22nd and with his Up in the Air nominated six times in tonight's award's show, including Clooney's nod for Best Actor and the Best Screenplay category, he's definitely the man of the night!

Will Gabourey Push Toward A Best Actress Win?

Posted on Sun Jan 17th, 2010 4:31pm PDT       By X17 Staff

Helen Mirren's talen and Sandra Bullock's popularity aside, I totally hope Gabourey Sidibe takes the prize for Best Actress for her role in the hit Precious.

Isn't it more interesting for the newcomer,-- the girl who didn't get a $20 million paycheck, who killed it in a difficult role -- to win? I hope the Hollywood Foreign Press Association thinks so, 'cause this girl deserves it!

Sandra Bullock looked great in this semi-sheer purple gown on the wet red carpet at tonight's Golden Globes -- of course coming off her Film Critic's Award for Best Actress, which she shared with Meryl Streep.

Bullock is nominated tonight for Best Performance by an Actress in Motion Picture Drama for her role in The Blind Side.

Good luck, Sandy!
