X17 photographers staked out the international terminal at LAX tonight just in case Lindsay hopped a last-minute flight from Paris to arrive in time for her court hearing tomorrow but ... nope -- girlfriend's stranded in the south of France after losing her passport. Boo hoo!

This doesn't make tomorrow's hearing any less interesting ... we're thinking Lindsay's absence -- intentional or not -- may upset the judge and result in a little time in the clink for Lilo.

America has picked its season nine finalists and competing for the title of American Idol are bluesy mama from Ohio, Crystal Bowersox and soulful paint salesman from Illinois, Lee DeWyze.

Bowersox and DeWyze beat out judge Kara DioGuardi's crush, Texan Casey James to nab a spot in Tuesday's finale.

Crystal and Lee have been the front runners pretty much throughout this competition, which may have accounted for the relatively low amount of votes this week (Seacrest said 47 million voted them into the finale while 88 million votes were cast for Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen at this stage in the competition last year.)

It's the million dollar question ... did Lindsay make it past swarms of paparazzi in Cannes today to hop a flight back to LA in time for her court date tomorrow or, more likely, is she "stuck" in the southern French town, partying her days away?

The 23-year-old actress is due in court tomorrow in connection with unfulfilled requirements stemming from her 2007 DUI arrest, but the starlet claims to have lost her passport.

Michael Lohan insists that his daughter is just "making excuses" and doesn't believe the judge "is going to buy that she lost her passport." He also believes Lindsay might prefer going to jail if she can avoid a longer stint in rehab again - after all, Linds has already been to rehab three times!
